Unit 1: Where We Are In Place And Time

Central Idea: 
Histories and cultures influence our present and future lives.
Lines of Inquiry: 
-explore ancient civilizations of the Americas.
-influence these civilizations had on history.
-compare/contrast the different cultures.
​-interpret how exploration had positive and negative effects on other cultures globally.

Unit 2: How The World Works

Central Idea: 
Energy and forces move our world in many ways.
Lines of Inquiry: 
-investigate and explain forms of energy and how they have the ability to cause motion or create change.
-investigate and explain that electrical energy can be transformed and flow through a circuit.
-describe technological developments that shaped European exploration.
-investigate and analyze the European explorer's motives: economic, political, and social.

Unit 3: How We Organize Themselves

Central Idea: 
Revolutions from the past affect societies today. 
Lines of Inquiry: 
- Compare social and political motivations for the key countries colonization in the Americas and how this played a role in the 3 regions- New England, Middle, and Southern.
-Identify significant events, and people leading up to the American Revolution.
-Describe the major battles and contributors to the outcomes.
-Viewpoints of Loyalist vs Patriots
-Outcome of Revolution.Concepts:
causation, change, perspective, responsibility

Unit 4: Who We Are

Central Idea: 
The interconnected systems are dependent upon one another.
Lines of Inquiry: 
-The major body organs
-Systems of the human body
-How the systems are interconnected
-Explain how and why the US government was created.
-Students will analyze the branches of government, election process, symbols, and historical documents
-Evaluate the importance of civil responsibilities.
-Compare the human body systems to the branches of government. And to different types of government.

Unit 5: How We Express Ourselves

Central Idea: 
Culture is represented by diversity within our global community. Learning to overcome conflict and adapt to different cultural diversities.
