PYP Terms Explained:
Transdisciplinary Themes/Unit of Inquiry:
they are the guiding framework of the PYP curriculum. They usualy last 4-6 weeks.
Key Concepts:
8 concepts help to drive the inquiry process
Learner Profile Attributes:
10 qualities valued by IB World Schools. They believe these attributes can help individuals and groups become responsible members of local, national, and global communities.
Learner Attitudes:
12 daily, outward expressions of their inner feelings
Approaches to Learning Skills:
(transdisciplinary skills) the skills that students will develop each day, across all areas of the curriculum -- social skills, research skills, self management skills, thinking skills, communication skills
Formative Assessment:
informal, ongoing assesments -can be done through observations, conversations or interactions
Summative Assessments:
usually takes place at the end of a unit to assess if a major learning objective has been reached- gives students a chance to show all that they have learned over a period of time
Action:
using what they know, what they've learned, to make the world and their community a better place.
International-mindedness:
to think about others outside of their part of the world - how others in other countries and cultures think, act, feel, believe, dress, live, speak, etc... They are encouraged to appreciate other views and other ways of life around the globe.
Global Engagement:
a commitment to explore some of the global challenges faced in creating a better and more peaceful world. IB students and teachers are encouraged to explore these global and local issues in an age appropriate way.
